5.7.24

 Year 5,

You have had quite a week. In maths, you learnt more about how to calculate with decimals and in English you began writing your narratives inspired by Macbeth. In geography, you studied coral reefs and some of the risks to our oceans. A number of your sessions have been spent on PSHE this week, and you have considered the changes that happen to bodies of females and males through puberty and the reasons for this. You also learnt about conception and then had your questions answered this morning.

Next week, you will continue to write your narratives in English, and you will begin your new maths topic of negative numbers in maths. On Wednesday you will be visiting Frinton on Sea to conduct fieldwork relating to geography but before that you will complete some more learning on our oceans in preparation. In science, you will consider the life cycle of humans and will use computing to present this. You will also have your ‘Meet the Teacher’ session.

Half-term project – Ocean/Sea study

This half term your project is going to focus on one ocean or sea of your choice. I would like you to be able to teach the groups you present to all about the ocean you have studied.

You must teach us about:

- the difference between an ocean and a sea

- location of the ocean/sea

- human uses of the ocean/sea

- flora and fauna of the ocean/sea

- environmental issues linked to this ocean/sea

- any other interesting things about the ocean/sea

This project can be shared in any format. It could be (but is not limited to) a poster, model with labels, handwritten project, PowerPoint presentation.

Please hand in your project by Monday 8th July (EXTENDED to Monday 15th July).

On Wednesday, you must bring a packed lunch and wear school uniform. You MUST ensure you have the correct additional items (eg a raincoat, suncream). If your adult has not opted you out, and the weather is suitable, you are likely to want a small towel to dry your feet after paddling. You ARE NOT swimming, therefore DO NOT need swimwear. You MUST be in school at 8.30am

Remember:

- Check that your adult has considered and responded to the beach visit on Arbor

- Your project deadline has been extended to Monday 15th July (if it is ready sooner you can bring it in/send it)

- Next Thursday is Meet the Teacher

- Next Friday is Friday Fun Day

-    Reading – please ensure that you read 5 times a week and record this in your Reading Journal. You MUST have your reading book and journal in school every day.

-    Spellings – please practise putting spellings into sentences as well as practising them as individual words.

-   SumDog – Please practise on this as it is crucial that you maintain your learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you have already learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Cresswell 😊
