Today was a very busy day with lots of new experiences! After a fairly decent night's sleep, the children were up and out for breakfast at 9am. This was after playing a few games and enjoying balloons as it was one of the children’s birthdays. After breakfast, they participated in 3 Children at War activities. They visited a wartime house and learnt about the different tools, toys and activities in that period. They went into a wartime ‘Digging for Victory’ garden, where they saw an Anderson Shelter and then had the job of putting out an incendiary device which had fallen onto a roof – this required a lot of hard work with a stirrup pump. They also visited a Blitz experience where they learnt about the Blitz from a gentleman who was a child at the time. They learnt about his first hand experiences before then attending a museum on the time. Not only this but they also got to ride in the back of a wartime military vehicle which was used in Normandy in 1942 but is still in working condition.
After all of this, they went to the woods, completed a
minibeasts hunt and created colour palates with materials in the woodland. They
had a dinner of Spaghetti Bolognese, apple crumble and custard, and fruit. They
had a campfire with marshmallows and singing, and then finished with a movie
and birthday cake. Some are already asking about going to bed!
