21.10.22

 Good afternoon Year 5,

What a half term! You have come back from the summer with a real determination and desire to learn. You have fully immersed yourselves in space, with a finale of seeing sharing your incredible projects with this theme. You have written multiple poems and a detailed non-fiction piece based around Brazil, which has resulted in some beautiful double-page spreads in your geography books. It has been lovely to see you pushing yourselves and many of you enjoying the challenges in Maths.

This week alone, you have completed your explorer’s guides, considered prime and composite numbers, and studied aspects of South America. You have also celebrated Equalities Week by considering the important differences between people, including differences in gender, sexual orientation, disability and race. You were very mature when discussing sensitive topics and I was really impressed with the quality of your contributions.

Next half term we will be finishing ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’ and keeping ourselves just as busy. If you have not yet shared your projects, you will have the opportunity once we return. After half term I will let you know more about the learning to come.

Reminders:

You have football on a Monday so please remember your second pair of trainers (otherwise a text will be sent to parents as a reminder for full kit)

-        Reading – You have all got reading books and been given your Reading Journals and shown how to write in them. Please ensure that you read and record it at least 5 times a week. You can do the recording; it does not have to be your adult. You must complete a Reading Journal Activity before changing your book and if you are not enjoying your book you must read at least 40 pages and write why you have not been enjoying it in your journal.

-        Sumdog/Times Tables Rockstars- Please remember to use these to practise your maths. Your passwords are in the back of your Reading Journal.

Have a lovely, restful half term break and I look forward to seeing you in a week’s time.

14.10.22

  Year 5,

Our penultimate week of this half term has been another great one. You have been determined and resilient as well as hardworking. Your researching skills have really strengthened and your research on Brazil has led to a great start on your English. In Maths, you have absolutely flown and shown great confidence. It was lovely to see you present your learning so well in our class assembly too!

Next week we will be ensuring that we finish off our writing and continue reading ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’. We will be developing your understanding of different types of number in Maths. You will be creating your piece of writing to demonstrate your learning in Geography, hopefully using some of your art skills too.

Your project is due in on Monday so please bring this in and be ready to share it with the class.

Your project for this half term – Exploring Space

As you know, this half term we are studying space in Science. I would like you to study some of the areas of space that you have an interest in. Your learning outcome could be a PowerPoint, a Word processed or handwritten project, a model or sculpture. This should demonstrate the research you have put in over the weeks before the deadline of Monday 17th October, when you will share your learning with the class.

You could study (but are not restricted to):

The moon landings

Could there be life on other planets?

Black holes, meteors and other space features

Constellations of stars

You could create (but are not restricted to):

-        A model of a planet

-        A game themed around space

-        A story based in space

-        A written project on space features

Reminders:

You have football on a Monday so please remember your second pair of trainers (otherwise a text will be sent to parents as a reminder for full kit)

-        Clubs have now begun. If you have been signed up, please ensure that you attend as numbers are limited and demand is high.

-        Spellings – You have had your pre-test today instead of on Monday and are asked to practise these throughout the week ready for the test on Friday (they will be on the blog). Remember I am looking for improvement.

-        Sumdog/Times Tables Rockstars- Please remember to use these to practise your maths. Your passwords are now in the back of your Reading Journal.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
