20.7.22 Year 5

  Year 5,

What a year! You have been absolute stars this year with how outgoing, hardworking and fun you are. You have been a joy to teach and I really look forward to seeing you enjoy all that comes with Year 6.

All of the Year 5 team wish to say a massive thank you for our goodies – we are going to thoroughly enjoy them over the summer.

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable break and I look forward to seeing you arrive as the oldest class of the school!!

Best wishes,

Miss H Huntley  ðŸ˜Š

15.7.22

 Year 5,

You have completed lots of learning this week. In Maths you have worked on creating and interpreting graphs using a range of data. In English, you have planned and begun writing a short story based on a witch from Macbeth. In geography, you spent Monday learning all about rivers and then creating a detailed double-page spread covering the topics. PSHE has focussed on developing self-esteem and looking toward next year. You have had the opportunity to spend time with Mr Gradwell this week as a part of Transition, and you wrote a letter to yourself in this session.

Next week is our final week together. We will be finishing your stories in English, learning about Roman Numerals in maths and finishing any other learning that is needed. You will also have the opportunity to share your half term projects and see Year 6’s show, and will get yourselves organised for next year.

Remember:

School finishes at 2pm on Wednesday.

-     Next week is due to be very hot - you MUST remember your water bottle.

-    PE can sometimes move so please ensure your kit is school in every day.

-    Reading – please ensure that you read 5 times a week and record this in your Reading Journal. You MUST have your reading book and journal in school every day.

-   SumDog – Please practise on this as it is crucial that you maintain your learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you have already learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class.

Have a lovely weekend.

8.7.22

 Year 5,

You have had a week with a range of subjects and activities. You worked on 2D shape in maths and wrote newspaper reports on the murder of King Duncan in English. In science, you presented and interpreted data on the gestation of animals. You also had the opportunity to watch a production of Mary Poppins at Mount Grace school and the pianists in assembly today (well done to you guys!) We all had a great time participating in Year 6’s Apprentice this afternoon and released our butterflies into the wild too.

Photograph below as requested:

Next week you will be completing a narrative in English based on a picture inspired by Macbeth. In maths you will be working on statistics and in PSHE we will be working on relationships and self-reflection. You will also have the opportunity to talk to your teacher for next year on Thursday when we have transition, and your adults have been invited to a ‘Meet the Teacher’ meeting on the same day. On Monday, you will be taking responsibility for your own learning (guided of course) for much of the day, with a focus on rivers.

Your project for this half term is repeated below and is due on Monday.

This half term your project is going to focus on a book that you have read during Year 5. It can be a library, home or school reading book; fiction or non-fiction. It should be a book which you have enjoyed reading and I would like you to think of a creative way to convince others to read this book. It may even be used to persuade future Year 5 children to read it. Please ensure that you can summarise the book, explain why you enjoyed the book and what about it you enjoyed. Consider the age range you would recommend it for and why. To present your book you could (but are not limited to):

  •          Film a book review
  •          Create a story box (a decorated box filled with items which represent the story)
  •          Produce a model to represent a character / event
  •          Create a mood-board linked to the different parts of the book

Please hand in your creative book review by Monday 11th July.

Remember:

-    Your project is due on Monday.

-    PE can sometimes move so please ensure your kit is school in every day.

-    Reading – please ensure that you read 5 times a week and record this in your Reading Journal. You MUST have your reading book and journal in school every day.

-    Spellings – please practise putting spellings into sentences. These are set on TEAMs as well as shared on the blog.

-   SumDog – Please practise on this as it is crucial that you maintain your learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you have already learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class.

Have a lovely weekend.

1.7.22

 Year 5,

It has been quite a week. In English you have studied Macbeth and have begun preparing a newspaper report on the murder of King Duncan. In maths you have completed your work on timetables by interpreting and creating school lesson timetables. You considered how seaside holidays have changed over the 20th and into the 21st century in history. You have also taken part in a range of PSHE lessons which have focussed on puberty and conception. You were generally mature and asked lots of well-considered questions.  Remember – if you have any questions please ask your parent/guardian or an adult who you trust.

Next week we will be writing newspaper reports and continuing our reading of ‘The eye of the wolf’. In maths, we will learn about 2D shapes, irregular and regular polygons, and applying understanding of rectangles to problem solving. In science, you will be combining it with maths to interpret data and create graphs on the gestation of mammals and we will be treated to a performance of Mary Poppins at Mount Grace school on Wednesday.

Your project for this half term was set last week and is repeated below.

This half term your project is going to focus on a book that you have read during Year 5. It can be a library, home or school reading book; fiction or non-fiction. It should be a book which you have enjoyed reading and I would like you to think of a creative way to convince others to read this book. •          Create a mood-board linked to the different parts of the book

Please hand in your creative book review by Monday 11th July.

Remember:

-    The Apprentice is on Friday - all items are between 50p and £2 so please be sensible with the amount of money you bring, and try to bring it in small coins. One of the items available will be temporary tattoos. If these are a problem due to allergies, please let me know.

-    PE can sometimes move so please ensure your kit is school in every day.

-    Reading – please ensure that you read 5 times a week and record this in your Reading Journal. You MUST have your reading book and journal in school every day.
