Happy New Year all! 

We’ve had a busy and positive first week back in Year 5. 


PE Timetable Update

  • Monday – 1 hour (full PE kit required)

  • Wednesday – 30 minutes (trainers only)

  • Thursday – 1 hour (full PE kit required)

Please ensure your child has the correct kit in school on these days so they can take part fully.


Home Learning Topic – Bridges Due w/c 9th February

Last term, the children learned all about bridges in D&T. For their new home learning project, I would like them to:

Design and build a bridge

Specifications:

  • The bridge must span a minimum of 35cm

  • It must be able to hold 400g

  • We will be testing the bridges in class

There is no other homework set this week, so this is a great opportunity for the children to get started. Creativity is encouraged, and children can use any materials they choose.


Homework expectations from 12th January 2026

CGP Books (Maths and English): TWO pieces per week. I will specify on the blog which topic will be covered and when it is due in. 

Reading 5 x 10-minute sessions a week aloud to an adult. Please record this in your reading record. 

Spellings: Weekly spelling practice and tests. Spelling tests are Mondays. The spellings will be available on the blog each Monday for the children to learn them at home over the week. 

Sumdog: Online maths practice to help us improve our skills. 3 x 20-minute sessions a week.

We have had a great day despite the rain. The children have enjoyed learning about life in Britain during WWII. We are also celebrating a birthday today which is very exciting. Now we are off to soft play - see you all tomorrow.  Just a reminder, we will send a text when we are on our way back. When we arrive back you are able to pick your child up before the school day finishes.

We are very excited to be back at school and have already had a brilliant first two days in Year 5. Everyone has settled in really well, and it feels like we are ready for a fantastic year of learning and fun together. This half term we have a busy timetable, and here are some important things to remember: PE Timetable for Autumn 1 Monday: Football Wednesday: Swimming (this will begin on 17th September 2025 ) Thursday: A short 30-minute PE session – trainers only are needed Please make sure you have the correct PE kit and are ready for each lesson. Lincolnsfield Day 1

As you can see we are having great time at Lincolnsfield. We have had lots of fun, all eaten lots at dinner and enjoyed our evening around the campfire.  I will update the blog tomorrow with some more pictures.
