Year 5, What a half term! I can’t quite believe we are here already. This week you have finished our geography topic by producing a non-chronological report in English and then repurposing it in geography as a double page spread (these were beautifully decorated). In maths you have been working on various mental methods for multiplication and division and have applied them in a variety of contexts. We have spent most of our afternoons practising for today’s assembly and I couldn’t be prouder of the way you presented yourselves this morning. Next week is, of course, half term and so I hope you enjoy some time with friends and family and have a chance to rest and get ready for next half term where we will begin our first history topic (which will also be a part of some of our English) and our next PSHE topic. We will also continue with ‘Who Let the Gods Out’ and find out what happens to Elliott, Virgo and Thanatos! There will be more information on all of our learning to come...

Year 5, It has been a great week watching you complete a wide range of learning. In maths, you have been looking at factors and common factors, you have also found prime and composite numbers and completed consolidation activities on these. In English, you have written your ‘The Magic Box’ poems with beautifully creative ideas and descriptions. We had a double computing lesson where you researched facts about Brazil in preparation for your double page spreads and we spend the assembly slots practising handwriting and spellings. On Thursday, we marked Black History Month with a day focussing on influential people who have impacted history and we learnt about the likes of Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks and Jesse Owens. It was lovely to see how engaged and passionate you were about fairness and equality. Next week is the final week of the half term and we have lots to accomplish. We will be considering mental methods of multiplication and division in maths and in English we w...

Year 5, You worked really hard this week and it was lovely to see you finishing various pieces of learning today. This week in English, you have finished your explanation texts and edited them to be the best they possibly can. Maths has focussed on you multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 and you have moved onto working with multiples and factors (and some divisibility rules). Science this week was all about the moon and how it tied in with Earth and in art you produced lovely landscape pictures using one-point perspective. In PSHE, we discussed what all children need in order to learn and the responsibilities that come with those rights, and you made really thoughtful and well-considered contributions. It was lovely to see lots of your parents join us for the harvest assembly today too.   Next week, we will be writing poems inspired by ‘The Magic Box’ which you came up with ideas for this week. We will be looking at common factors and prime numbers in maths. In ...

Year 5, It has been another busy week and you have produced more wonderful learning. English this week has involved a lot of editing and the explanation texts are showing your focus and improvements. In Maths you have worked hard on rounding decimals and have practised multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 without having to use formal written methods. In art, you created wonderful Gaudi inspired buildings (you may just spot some of them up by the hall) and we had discussions around volcanoes in geography while learning about the mountains of South America. We considered rights and responsibilities in PSHE and in RE we looked at features of a synagogue. You also had the important job of voting for your House Captains this week and had your first friendship groups of the year. Next week will be just as busy! We will be finishing your explanation texts in English and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 in maths. We will be looking at perspective in art and the Moon in science...
