Year 5,
What a week! You began the week by making Modroc sculptures
and coding using Make Code and Micro:Bits. Then you began learning sports in
Spanish and had art Friendship Groups. In maths, you focused on statistics –
completing learning on line graphs, tables and timetables, also using Maths Day
to apply line graphs to English and geography. In English, you finished your
chapters inspired by The Nowhere Emporium, and in science you observed and
recorded changes to the potatoes, recorded observations of our new caterpillars,
and played a game to create lifecycles. In PSHE you considered how the media influences
people’s body image, and had your mini police session on Anti-Social Behaviour.
You also composed some fantastic pieces of music to a video in your music
lessons.
Next week is a 4 day week and for 3 of them we are on
residential! On Tuesday, you will complete your PSHE on the impacts of social
media, and you will be considering fact and opinion in a reading session. You
will begin thinking about angles in maths and will look at a specific life
cycle in science. You will also have your next mini police session, which I believe
is on road safety.
On Wednesday, we will be going to Lincolnsfields. You will
come to school at normal time but in your own clothes. You will come in the
normal way but your adults can help you in and bring in any medicines and forms
to go with them – these must be handed to me. You must also bring a packed lunch
for Wednesday. You DO NOT need to bring bedding as this is provided, you DO NOT
need to bring money, and you DO NOT need to bring any electrical items. I will
be updating the blog while we are away so that your adults can see what you are
up to. For those children staying in school, you will come in at normal time in
uniform and you will be joining Year 4 for those days. I will be leaving some
learning for the times where you need it.
Half term project – Masters of Maths
This half term, your project is to create a game for your classmates to
play which covers areas of maths that we have learnt about in class. This game
could be a quiz, or could be a board game (or a more creative idea if you have
one).
You can focus on one topic or a range of maths which we have covered,
such as: place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, shape,
fractions, decimals, percentages, area, perimeter, translation and
reflection.
Please ensure that you bring your game to school by Monday 20th May as
we will be playing them sometime that week.
Remember:
- Lincolnsfields forms are due and you cannot attend if I do not have
them
- Reading – please ensure that you read 5 times a week and
record this in your Reading Journal. You MUST have your reading book and
journal in school every day
- Spellings – please practise putting spellings into
sentences as well as practising them.
- SumDog – Please practise on this as it is crucial that you
maintain your learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you
have already learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Cresswell
