28.6.24

Year 5, It has been another very busy week. You have worked on calculating with decimals in maths and planned a narrative inspired by Macbeth in English. In geography, you researched the Great Barrier Reef and in PSHE you considered the way you present yourselves. This week you also rehearsed and presented your assembly and passed as Mini Police, and participated in the Apprentice. You also harvested your potatoes this week, finding that the weather has impacted the harvest, but also discovering a toad, frog and lizard had taken up residence in the bags which we had been using! Next week, you will finish planning and begin writing your narratives. You will continue to work with decimals and you will have a number of PSHE lessons on our ‘Changing Me’ topic. There will also be the opportunity to cook and eat the potatoes you have grown. Half-term project – Ocean/Sea study This half term your project is going to focus on  one ocean or sea of your choice .  Year 5, It’s been another busy week. You have moved onto studying calculation with decimals in maths and have created story ideas and built your grammar and vocabulary through the use of a picture in English. In computing, you considered ‘if…then’ statements and in geography you considered the importance of oceans to humans. You also planned and practised for your Mini Police assembly and participated in Sports Day, and some of you shared your (extremely impressive) talents at the school Talent Show. I would also like to thank you for being so thoughtful in making my birthday so special – it was a lovely surprise to receive so many well wishes, handmade cards and even some delicious baking! Next week, in English you will be planning a short narrative inspired by the picture from this week combined with the narrative of Macbeth. In maths, you will continue to work with decimal numbers. You will be looking at the Great Barrier Reef in geography and in PSHE you will consider the ...

Year 5, You have had quite the week! This week you tried your hand at the 2017 SATs papers to see what they are like and to experience exam conditions. You did really well at handling the requirements of this and were very resilient when finding it challenging. You also created stunning pictures inspired by our oceans for the art display, which showed a range of skills you have learnt this year. In RE, you considered how music can enable people to worship, and in science you compared the lifecycles of insects and reptiles. Today, you began studying our new English focus – Macbeth. Hopefully you will enjoy the unit as much as the adults do – even if it is rather gory in places! Next week, in maths you will be continuing with reflection and then beginning work on decimals. In English you will continue with Macbeth and then apply ideas to a picture. You will have a couple of sessions to plan, resource and rehearse your Mini Police assembly, and in science you will look at reprodu...

Year 5, What a first week back! You spent the first couple of days learning about Sir David Attenborough, turning this information into a script for a documentary, and then filming and editing your documentary about him. You spent Wednesday learning about how leisure and entertainment has changed since the early 1900s and thought about how the World Wars impacted this. You have also considered how music has changed over the last 50 years. In maths, you have practised reading and problem solving with coordinates and have translated points and shapes. Most of you have also carved your printing blocks ready to print in the style of Andy Warhol. Next week, you will have a chance to print using your printing blocks, and will be applying other art techniques learnt this year when producing a piece inspired by the ocean. You will be learning a piece of poetry in English and in maths you will continue with translation. Next week you will also have the opportunity to try some test papers li...
