21.6.24

 Year 5,

It’s been another busy week. You have moved onto studying calculation with decimals in maths and have created story ideas and built your grammar and vocabulary through the use of a picture in English. In computing, you considered ‘if…then’ statements and in geography you considered the importance of oceans to humans. You also planned and practised for your Mini Police assembly and participated in Sports Day, and some of you shared your (extremely impressive) talents at the school Talent Show. I would also like to thank you for being so thoughtful in making my birthday so special – it was a lovely surprise to receive so many well wishes, handmade cards and even some delicious baking!

Next week, in English you will be planning a short narrative inspired by the picture from this week combined with the narrative of Macbeth. In maths, you will continue to work with decimal numbers. You will be looking at the Great Barrier Reef in geography and in PSHE you will consider the importance of self confidence and will complete some self reflection. You will also have time to polish off your Mini Police Assembly before you present it to Key Stage 2 and Sam (our PCSO) on Wednesday.

 Half-term project – Ocean/Sea study

This half term your project is going to focus on one ocean or sea of your choice. I would like you to be able to teach the groups you present to all about the ocean you have studied.

You must teach us about:

- the difference between an ocean and a sea

- location of the ocean/sea

- human uses of the ocean/sea

- flora and fauna of the ocean/sea

- environmental issues linked to this ocean/sea

- any other interesting things about the ocean/sea

This project can be shared in any format. It could be (but is not limited to) a poster, model with labels, handwritten project, PowerPoint presentation.

Please hand in your project by Monday 8th July.

Remember:

- Monday morning is Y5 Parent Consultations

- Wednesday is your Mini Police Assembly all props need to be in on Tuesday morning

-  Thursday after school is also Parent Consultations

- Check that your adult has considered and responded to the beach visit on Arbor

-    Reading – please ensure that you read 5 times a week and record this in your Reading Journal. You MUST have your reading book and journal in school every day.

-    Spellings – please practise putting spellings into sentences as well as practising them as individual words.

-   SumDog – Please practise on this as it is crucial that you maintain your learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you have already learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Cresswell 😊
