Lincolnsfields 2024 Day 1

We have had a fun packed first day here at Lincolnsfields. We arrived in glorious sunshine and it continued throughout the day. We began with a quick talk about the safety requirements and expectations and then went straight into an activity. We were orienteering, using maps to get to know the site. The children solved a range of riddles (they were better at this than some of the adults!) After this, it was lunchtime. We then headed to the woods where we were taken on a walk through them – including some muddy bits. The children then took part in team building challenges in the woodland. They completed ‘The Floor is Lava’ using boards to cross the lava, and ‘The Wind Game’ where they worked together to reach between 2 trees (some were rather a stretch). The children then played Zombies vs Humans and finally returned to the main buildings where they were told their rooms. They then began making their beds – some more successfully than others. Lincolnsfields Day 2

Today was a very busy day with lots of new experiences! After a fairly decent night's sleep, the children were up and out for breakfast at 9am. This was after playing a few games and enjoying balloons as it was one of the children’s birthdays. After breakfast, they participated in 3 Children at War activities. They visited a wartime house and learnt about the different tools, toys and activities in that period. They went into a wartime ‘Digging for Victory’ garden, where they saw an Anderson Shelter and then had the job of putting out an incendiary device which had fallen onto a roof – this required a lot of hard work with a stirrup pump. They also visited a Blitz experience where they learnt about the Blitz from a gentleman who was a child at the time. They learnt about his first hand experiences before then attending a museum on the time. Our first full week has come to an end! It has been a great week and we are really getting into the flow of Year 5. Spellings will start on Monday. Swimming will start this Wednesday 18th September. Home Learning In Year 5, we will ask your child to ensure that they complete the following compulsory learning at home: - Reading 5 times a week - Practising spellings each week between the pre-test and test (Test on Monday). - Practising maths on Sumdog - Practising times tables on TT Rockstars - Completing the half termly project PE Timetable Monday 1hr (Football) Wednesday - Swimming. Thursday trainers only Spellings The test and pre-test will be on Mondays and will be published on the blog. Next Week Maths - Comparing numbers to 1000000 and placing numbers on a number line. English - We will be starting our recount topic. We will be writing a biography. Science - Space and spherical bodies.
