Please complete Progress Test 2 (pages 48–51) for next week

PE Timetable

Our PE timetable has now changed. PE will take place on:

  • Monday – 1 hour
  • Wednesday – 1 hour
  • Friday – 30 minutes

Please ensure children have their PE kits in school throughout the week.

Exciting STEM Visitor 

On Monday, we are incredibly lucky to have a special STEM visitor coming in to speak to the class about her work at NASA! The children are very excited and I’m sure they’ll come home full of interesting facts and questions.

Open Afternoon

This Wednesday is our Open Afternoon and we hope many of you will be able to join us and see some of the fantastic learning taking place in Year 5!

Residential Information Meeting

A reminder that the Parent Information Meeting for our upcoming residential trip to Lincolnsfield will take place on Wednesday 20th May at 15:30.

Oakmere Mini-Marathon 🏃

On Friday morning, the children will be taking part in the Oakmere Mini-Marathon. Please make sure your child has:

  • Their PE kit in school
  • A named bottle of water

We’re looking forward to a fun and active morning!


Half Term Project - Developing Confident Presenters -  Due Monday 18th May

This half term, I would like to focus on helping the children enhance their presenting skills. To achieve this, I would like them to create a short presentation—whether it’s a PowerPoint or another format—on a topic they’re passionate about. The goal is for them to speak confidently to the class, sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge with their peers. Our emphasis will be on their delivery, clarity, and building self-assurance when presenting to an audience. I would like EVERYONE to take part.

We have had a great day despite the rain. The children have enjoyed learning about life in Britain during WWII. We are also celebrating a birthday today which is very exciting. Now we are off to soft play - see you all tomorrow.  Just a reminder, we will send a text when we are on our way back. When we arrive back you are able to pick your child up before the school day finishes.

We are very excited to be back at school and have already had a brilliant first two days in Year 5. Everyone has settled in really well, and it feels like we are ready for a fantastic year of learning and fun together. This half term we have a busy timetable, and here are some important things to remember: PE Timetable for Autumn 1 Monday: Football Wednesday: Swimming (this will begin on 17th September 2025 ) Thursday: A short 30-minute PE session – trainers only are needed Please make sure you have the correct PE kit and are ready for each lesson. Homework CGP Books (Maths and English): One piece per week, alternating between the two subjects. I will specify on the blog which topic will be covered and when it is due in.  Reading 5 x 10-minute sessions a week aloud to an adult.  Happy Friday all,  Well done to all who took part in Sports Day! It was a success and congratulations to Grangewood in winning the Sports Day trophy.  Next week Year 5 Trip to Stanborough Park –  Friday 27th June 2025 We’re so excited for our upcoming adventure at Stanborough Park Water Sports Centre ! This promises to be a fantastic day full of fun, learning and outdoor challenges – but to make the most of it, here are some important things you need to know. Outdoor activities can get wet and muddy – that’s part of the fun! Please come prepared with the following: Clothing: Old trainers, wet shoes or crocs (they may get wet – no sandals or flip flops please!)
