24.9.21

 Year 5,

It has been yet another busy week and you have completed a large amount of learning. In maths, you have learnt about working with negative numbers and then reminded yourselves of decimal numbers and have compared and ordered them in a range of ways. In English, you have created weird and wonderful creatures and have planned your explanation texts ready for next week. You have learnt about why the sun appears to move across the sky and how we have day and night, and have created lovely posters for the firework poster competition. You have continued to work on your handwriting in the mornings and your maths fluency in the afternoons.

Today you have really pushed yourselves in our Spanish learning when describing the planets of the solar system using only Spanish. You also created some striking pieces of artwork themed around the work of Gaudi.

Next week you will be writing your explanation texts in English, I look forward to learning about how I look after all of these amazing creatures! In maths, you will continue to work with decimal numbers and begin to look at efficient ways of multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000. Geography will involve us looking at the mountains of South America and how these impact the climate we looked at last lesson. In RE we will look at features of the Jewish place of worship in a similar way to how we looked at the Christian place of worship last week. You will also have the House Captain elections on Monday and the first friendship group of the year on Friday.

I have created a new page on the blog which contains all of the dates for the sharing assemblies over the coming year. Remember that these are events where the parents of the children listed can come and hear about their learning. We also have our class sharing assembly on 15th October which will be a time for all of your parents to come and see what you have been learning about this half term.

Reminders:

You have football on a Monday so please remember your second pair of trainers (otherwise a text will be sent to parents as a reminder for full kit)

-        Clubs have now begun

-        Reading – You have now been given your Reading Journals and shown how to write in them. Please ensure that you read and record it at least 5 times a week. You can do the recording; it does not have to be your adult. You must complete a Reading Journal Activity before changing your book and if you are not enjoying your book you must read at least 40 pages and write why you have not been enjoying it in your journal.

-        Spellings – You will have your next pre-test on Monday and are asked to practise these throughout the week ready for the test on Friday (they will be on the blog). Remember I am looking for improvement.

-        Sumdog/Times Tables Rockstars- Please remember to use these to practise your maths. Your passwords are now stuck in the back of your Reading Journal.

    Have a lovely weekend.

      Miss H Huntley :-)
