Year 5,
This has been quite a week. You have written diaries as Herakles, considered
the importance of Jerusalem to multiple faiths and learnt how to tell the time
in Spanish. In Maths, you have developed your use of addition and subtraction
including written methods and in History considered whether you’d rather be
Spartan or Athenian – with some great reasons given. Alongside this, you have
participated in Anti-Bullying week through your odd socks on Monday, creating
anti-racism ribbons and creating anti-bullying mini-movies from notes, to
scripts, to filming and editing.
Next week, you will continue to develop your formal written methods in
Maths but this time with multiplication. We will finish reading ‘The 12 labours
of Herakles’ in English and then begin to plan your own version. We will also
continue to read ‘Who let the gods out’ and find out a little more about
Thanatos’ plan. In Science, we will plan and undertake an investigation. Our
History will look at something you were rather enthusiastic about – Ancient
Greek warfare and Art will continue to be inspired by Andy Warhol.
Please remember that swimming
begins next week so you will have that in a Wednesday morning instead of your Thursday
afternoon slot.
Well done to those of you who have already begun to
consider your project (in a blog entry below)- I have heard about some
fantastic and exciting ideas.
Reminders:
Your project has been set and is on the blog below
-
Wednesday is swimming
- Clubs
have now begun and need to be registered for on School Gateway
- Reading
– You have now been given your Reading Journals and shown how to write in them.
Please ensure that you read and record it at least 5 times a week. You can do
the recording; it does not have to be your adult. You must complete a Reading
Journal Activity before changing your book and if you are not enjoying your
book you must read at least 40 pages and write why you have not been enjoying
it in your journal.
- Spellings
– You will have your next pre-test on Monday and are asked to practise these
throughout the week ready for the test on Friday (they will be on the blog).
Remember I am looking for improvement.
- Sumdog/Times
Tables Rockstars- Please remember to use these to practise your maths. Your
passwords are stuck in the back of your Reading Journal.
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss H
Huntley :-)
