Year 5,
It has been a hot and busy week this week. You have solved a
range of problems involving multiplication and division in maths, and have
begun reading ‘The Eye of the Wolf' in English. Half of you competed in an
athletics competition and the other half began our design and technology based
frame structures. In PSHE, we discussed what you already knew about alcohol and
then developed this while looking at a possible scenario. Alongside all of
this, you have also completed a range of papers which show what you already
know in maths and English, and the things we still need to work on.
Next week is the final week of the half term and we will
focus on the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We will be plate decorating, practising
our class song based on the 1960s, and continuing the theme of 1960s when
producing a piece of artwork through printing. We will be writing poems based
around the theme of celebration and you will have the opportunity to play your
maths project games too! On Thursday morning, you will be taking part in the Mini Marathon which is back on this year, and on Friday, your adults have the opportunity to join you for a celebration from 2pm where you will also be performing your song. Mrs Onley will be there for any children whose adults are unable to attend.
Below I re-post the project from the blog on 29th April,
as a number of you have said that you have not yet begun.
Half term project – Masters of Maths
This half term, your project is to create a game for your classmates to
play which covers areas of maths that we have learnt about in class. This game
could be created online, could be a quiz, or could be a board game (or a more
creative idea if you have one).
You can focus on one topic or a range of maths which we have covered,
such as: place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, shape,
nets, fractions, decimals, percentages, area, perimeter, translation and
reflection, or angles.
Please ensure that you bring your game to school by Monday 23rd May as
we will be playing them sometime that week.
Remember:
- Your project is due on
Monday
- PE can sometimes move so please ensure your kit is school in every day
- Reading – please ensure that you read 5 times a week and
record this in your Reading Journal. You MUST have your reading book and
journal in school every day
- Spellings – please practise putting spellings into
sentences. These are set on TEAMs as well as shared on the blog.
- SumDog – Please practise on this as it is crucial that you
maintain your learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you
have already learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss Huntley 😊
