11.11.22
Year 5,
This week you have shown great determination in your learning.
It was lovely to see you working on developing your description and development
of story for the reader in your English when writing about The Raft. In maths,
you have developed your mental strategies using regrouping, rounding and recapping
some divisibility rules. In science, you use scientific vocabulary to describe the
properties of materials, considering why these properties make them useful, and
then focussed this on identifying whether items were magnetic. In history, you
have sequenced a giant timeline which has now been turned into a display in our
classroom and you have put a version of this in your books. For the last couple
of days, we have focused our writing on Remembrance and you have written and
illustrated some beautiful and considerate poems linked to this.
Next week is anti-bullying week. It is an opportunity for us
to remind ourselves about what bullying is and how to prevent it. This will
begin with ‘Odd Socks Day’ on Monday where you can wear odd socks (but must
wear normal school uniform other than the socks). We will also begin a new story
to focus on in our writing and will be covering addition and subtraction
strategies in maths. Our PSHE will be tied in with Anti-bullying week and our
science will look at a particular property of some materials.
Your project for this half term has now been set:
Your project for this half term – The
Wonders of Greece
As you know, this half term we are
studying Ancient Greece in History. I would like you to study some of the areas
of Ancient Greece that we will not have time to cover in detail. Your learning
outcome could be a PowerPoint, a Word processed or handwritten project, a model
or sculpture. This should demonstrate the research you have put in over the
weeks before the deadline of Monday 12th December, when you
will share your learning with the class.
You could study:
- Greek
theatre
- The
Parthenon/ temples
- The
first Olympics
- The
everyday lives of Ancient Greeks
- Greek
astronomy
- The
Battle of Troy (and the Trojan horse)
- The
mapping and geography of Ancient Greece
- Ancient
Greek soldiers
- Ancient
Greek Myths
-
Monday is Odd Socks Day – you can wear odd socks to celebrate everyone’s
differences, but you MUST wear the rest of your normal school uniform
-
Friday is Children in Need – You can wear your own clothes but some of
these should be spotty
You have football on a Monday so
please remember your second pair of trainers (otherwise a text will be sent to
parents as a reminder for full kit)
- Reading
– You have all got reading books and been given your Reading Journals and shown
how to write in them. Please ensure that you read and record it at least 5
times a week. You can do the recording; it does not have to be your adult. You
must complete a Reading Journal Activity before changing your book and if you
are not enjoying your book you must read at least 40 pages and write why you
have not been enjoying it in your journal.
- Sumdog/Times
Tables Rockstars- Please remember to use these to practise your maths. Your
passwords are in the back of your Reading Journal.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs H Cresswell 😊
