25.11.22
Year 5,
That has been quite a week! You have worked on written
methods for addition and subtraction, including 5 digit numbers and those with decimals,
and in English, you wrote your pieces inspired by The Errand. In science, you
planned and then undertook an experiment to test the insulative properties of
materials. History this week looked at the differences between Sparta and
Athens some of you write brilliant adverts for these polis (even if you did
mention that Spartans threw sick babies off cliffs!) For design and technology, you did very
important market research- taste
testing- of different types of bread. In RE today, you have thought about
important journeys to you (thank you for your thoughtful and honest examples,
even if these were hard to think about) and you then applied this to why Christians
might go on pilgrimages.
Next week we will begin a new focus in English and will be
moving on to written multiplication in maths. Science will look at a different
property of materials, and RE will look at pilgrimages that are special to
Jews. In history, you will be learning about Ancient Greek warfare, and in PSHE
you will be recapping what racism is, and how it can be stopped.
Your project for this half term has now been set:
Your project for this half term – The
Wonders of Greece
As you know, this half term we are
studying Ancient Greece in History. I would like you to study some of the areas
of Ancient Greece that we will not have time to cover in detail. Your learning
outcome could be a PowerPoint, a Word processed or handwritten project, a model
or sculpture. This should demonstrate the research you have put in over the
weeks before the deadline of Monday 12th December, when you
will share your learning with the class.
You could study:
- Greek
theatre
- The
Parthenon/ temples
- The
first Olympics
- The
everyday lives of Ancient Greeks
- Greek
astronomy
- The
Battle of Troy (and the Trojan horse)
- The
mapping and geography of Ancient Greece
- Ancient
Greek soldiers
- Ancient
Greek Myths
Reminders:
You have football on a Monday so
please remember your second pair of trainers (otherwise a text will be sent to
parents as a reminder for full kit)
- Reading
– You have all got reading books and been given your Reading Journals and shown
how to write in them. Please ensure that you read and record it at least 5
times a week. You can do the recording; it does not have to be your adult. You
must complete a Reading Journal Activity before changing your book and if you
are not enjoying your book you must read at least 40 pages and write why you
have not been enjoying it in your journal.
- Everyone should now be in winter
uniform which means wearing a shirt and tie.
- Sumdog/Times
Tables Rockstars- Please remember to use these to practise your maths. Your
passwords are in the back of your Reading Journal.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs H Cresswell 😊
