 Year 5,

What a busy week. This week you have written about a group of aliens landing into the house of Mr Wuffles in English. You have worked on written multiplication in maths, considering whether you prefer to work with long or short written multiplication. In science, you considered which materials are soluble and which are insoluble, and thought about what dissolving actually is. You also undertook an experiment to separate materials on Friday. In history, you learnt about Ancient Greek warfare and recreated your own vase designs inspired by this.

 

Next week you will be continuing to write about Mr Wuffles and the aliens in English, and in maths you will be moving on to written methods of division. In history, you will consider the daily lives of Ancient Greeks and you will learn about Hannukah in RE. PSHE will continue to celebrate differences and in art we will be developing skills and beginning to draw a winter landscape.

Next Wednesday is Christmas Dinner and jumper day.

PE is still on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (trainers only session) so please ensure you have your kit for these days.

 

Your project for this half term is due next week – The Wonders of Greece 

As you know, this half term we are studying Ancient Greece in History. I would like you to study some of the areas of Ancient Greece that we will not have time to cover in detail. Your learning outcome could be a PowerPoint, a Word processed or handwritten project, a model or sculpture. This should demonstrate the research you have put in over the weeks before the deadline of Monday 12th December, when you will share your learning with the class.  

You could study: 

  • Greek theatre 
  • The Parthenon/ temples 
  • The first Olympics 
  • The everyday lives of Ancient Greeks 
  • Greek astronomy 
  • The Battle of Troy (and the Trojan horse) 
  • The mapping and geography of Ancient Greece 
  • Ancient Greek soldiers 
  • Ancient Greek Myths

 Reminders:

-        Reading – You have all got reading books and been given your Reading Journals and shown how to write in them. Please ensure that you read and record it at least 5 times a week. You can do the recording; it does not have to be your adult. You must complete a Reading Journal Activity before changing your book and if you are not enjoying your book you must read at least 40 pages and write why you have not been enjoying it in your journal.

- Everyone should now be in winter uniform which means wearing a shirt and tie.

-        Sumdog/Times Tables Rockstars- Please remember to use these to practise your maths. Your passwords are in the back of your Reading Journal.

Lincolnsfields 2024 Day 1

 We have had a fun packed first day here at Lincolnsfields. We arrived in glorious sunshine and it continued throughout the day. We began with a quick talk about the safety requirements and expectations and then went straight into an activity. We were orienteering, using maps to get to know the site. The children solved a range of riddles (they were better at this than some of the adults!)  After this, it was lunchtime. We then headed to the woods where we were taken on a walk through them – including some muddy bits. The children then took part in team building challenges in the woodland. They completed ‘The Floor is Lava’ using boards to cross the lava, and ‘The Wind Game’ where they worked together to reach between 2 trees (some were rather a stretch). The children then played Zombies vs Humans and finally returned to the main buildings where they were told their rooms. Happy Friday all,  We have had a very Christmassy day today. Rehearsing for Tuesday's Carol Concert, eating a Christmas dinner and watched Inside Out 2 in the hall.  Just to remind you next Friday we finished a 1pm. Wednesday after school is open evening.  Our KS2 party is Thursday afternoon (during school). Please bring your party clothes.  Your project is due in on Monday.  Here is the  Music for Carol Concert  link for you to practise at home! PE Timetable  NEW Monday 1hr (Football). Wednesday - 1hr PE - kit needed.  Thursday trainers only. Half Term Project - Create a board game I would like the children to create a board game, card game or quiz about any and all topics we have covered this year or in previous years. The children should also write some rules for their game. I would like  EVERYONE  to take part in this project. Lincolnsfields Day 2

 Today was a very busy day with lots of new experiences! After a fairly decent night's sleep, the children were up and out for breakfast at 9am. This was after playing a few games and enjoying balloons as it was one of the children’s birthdays. After breakfast, they participated in 3 Children at War activities. They visited a wartime house and learnt about the different tools, toys and activities in that period. They went into a wartime ‘Digging for Victory’ garden, where they saw an Anderson Shelter and then had the job of putting out an incendiary device which had fallen onto a roof – this required a lot of hard work with a stirrup pump. They also visited a Blitz experience where they learnt about the Blitz from a gentleman who was a child at the time. They learnt about his first hand experiences before then attending a museum on the time.
