24.2.23

Year 5, We have had quite a first week back! You began the week measuring, sawing and cutting to organise the pieces for your frame structures. You finished our history topic by either completing tasks or creating a double-page spread on the later years of the Vikings. In geography, you began exploring our new topic of ‘The United Kingdom’, thinking about where we are in the world and asking questions to further your knowledge. In maths you have been problem solving and in English you have been celebrating books through creating and sharing book reviews. You also had the exciting opportunity to participate in the K’NEX challenge on Tuesday and to begin growing potatoes as a part of science. Well done to those of you who were successful in having your poems published! You have taken letters home for your parents and these contain all of the information and instructions on what to do next. In English, you wrote your persuasive letters as Earth to humans, about their impact on the environment. These were very persuasive and lots of you used the parenthesis and relative clauses we have been working on. History focused on the Viking timeline and in science you joined a STEM talk which was a debate over whether space or oceans were best to study. This week you have also recognised Safer Internet Day and created posters to guide adults on what you think should be taught about it, and you marked Children’s Mental Health week in assembly and this afternoon, where you thought about who you can speak to and who others might rely on. Next week is half term. On the following week, we will begin our new English, maths and geography topics. You will have a workshop on Tuesday morning (more information...

3.2.23

Year 5, It has been another busy week. This week you have continued with your work on fractions, learning to add and subtract with fractions with different denominators, and with mixed numbers. You also applied this to problems, remembering which word meant which operation. In English, you have planned your persuasive letters so that you are ready to write them. PSHE considered jobs you would like to achieve and then you compared your dreams and goals to those of two children in Kenya. In science, you undertook an experiment to test the level of friction caused by different shoes and thought about the factors that would influence this. In design and technology, you designed your frame structures and considered the measurements needed for cutting your wood. It was also great to see those of you who auditioned. You worked extremely hard and performed with confidence. Well done to those of you who participated in the Sumdog competition  Next week, you will continue calculati...
