Year 5,
We have had quite a first week back! You began the week
measuring, sawing and cutting to organise the pieces for your frame structures.
You finished our history topic by either completing tasks or creating a
double-page spread on the later years of the Vikings. In geography, you began exploring our new topic of ‘The United Kingdom’, thinking about where we are
in the world and asking questions to further your knowledge. In maths you have
been problem solving and in English you have been celebrating books through creating
and sharing book reviews. You also had the exciting opportunity to participate
in the K’NEX challenge on Tuesday and to begin growing potatoes as a part of science.
Well done to those of you who were successful in having your poems published! You have taken letters home for your parents and these contain all of the information and instructions on what to do next. Remember that there is no obligation to buy the books; being published is a huge achievement, well done!
Next week, you will be reviewing grammar and investigating
features of instructions in English. In maths, you will be problem solving and
then considering different metric measurements. You will be learning about why
and how Jews celebrate Passover in RE, and will be working more on the play.
Half term project
This half term, your project is all about the production.
You must learn your lines, cues and actions. You must learn the lyrics and dances
to the songs. When we have looked at what we have, you may be asked to organise
some of a costume (this will be ready soon).
Remember:
- PE is on
Monday, Thursday and Friday. You must have your kit in school
- You must have your script in school
every day as we will have rehearsals at different times
- Reading
– please ensure that you read 5 times a week and record this in your Reading
Journal. You MUST have your reading book and journal in school every day
- Spellings
– please practise putting spellings into sentences.
- TimesTables
Rockstars and SumDog – Please practise on these as it is crucial that you
maintain your learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you
have already learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Cresswell 😊
