3.2.23
Year 5,
It has been another busy week. This week you have continued
with your work on fractions, learning to add and subtract with fractions with
different denominators, and with mixed numbers. You also applied this to
problems, remembering which word meant which operation. In English, you have
planned your persuasive letters so that you are ready to write them. PSHE
considered jobs you would like to achieve and then you compared your dreams and
goals to those of two children in Kenya. In science, you undertook an experiment
to test the level of friction caused by different shoes and thought about the
factors that would influence this. In design and technology, you designed your
frame structures and considered the measurements needed for cutting your wood. It
was also great to see those of you who auditioned. You worked extremely hard
and performed with confidence. Well done to those of you who participated in the Sumdog competition
Next week, you will continue calculating with fractions,
this time multiplying. You will write your persuasive letters as Earth and you will
look at another force in science. In design and technology, you will be writing
your measurements on the wooden pieces reading for sawing.
Your project for this half term – Artist Study
This half term I would like you to focus your project on a particular
artist. Your learning outcome should include a written section and a creative
section.
The written part could be a PowerPoint presentation, a Word processed or
a handwritten project. Please ensure that this is your own work and not copied
directly from somewhere else (remember our learning on copywrite).
The creative part could be a drawing, painting, model making or
sculpture but must be inspired by the artist you have researched.
This should demonstrate the research you have put in over the weeks
before the deadline of Monday 6th February, when you will share your learning
with the class.
You could study (but are not restricted to):
• Stephen
Wiltshire
• Vincent
Van Gogh
• Barbara
Hepworth
• Charles
Rennie Mackintosh
• Freida
Kahlo
Remember:
- PE is on
Monday, Thursday and Friday. You must have your kit in school
- Reading – please
ensure that you read 5 times a week and record this in your Reading Journal.
You MUST have your reading book and journal in school every day
- Spellings – please
practise putting spellings into sentences.
- TimesTables Rockstars
and SumDog – Please practise on these as it is crucial that you maintain your
learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you have already
learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Cresswell 😊
