21.4.23 including half term project and overview

  Year 5,

We have had a very busy start to the Summer Term! This week, in English, you have considered a range of ‘Wonders’ inspired by ‘The Nowhere Emporium’. You have then begun planning your own chapter. In maths, you have recognised and calculated with percentages, also finding relationships between fractions, decimals and percentages. You have learnt about the rivers and coasts of the UK in geography and have considered the health implications of smoking and vaping in PSHE. This afternoon, you have finished creating your 3D sculptures of people inspired by your drawings of people in proportion, and this morning you had your class photo. We also discussed Lincolnsfields in more detail before I met a number of parents in the afternoon.

*Separate blog entry below with the slides from the meeting.

Next week you will be planning and beginning the writing of your chapters in English. In maths you will be applying your knowledge of percentages to problem solving. You will be writing your letters about a visit to the coast in geography and will be sharing your likes and dislikes of food in Spanish. In science you will be considering the force of water resistance and in PSHE we will be learning first aid techniques.

Half term project – Masters of Maths

This half term, your project is to create a game for your classmates to play which covers areas of maths that we have learnt about in class. This game could be created online, could be a quiz, or could be a board game (or a more creative idea if you have one).

You can focus on one topic or a range of maths which we have covered, such as: place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, shape, nets, fractions, decimals, percentages, area, perimeter, translation and reflection, or angles.

Please ensure that you bring your game to school by Monday 22nd  May as we will be playing them sometime that week.

Over the half term we will be covering a range of topics, outlined below:

Remember:

- Medical forms to be returned on Monday

-    PE continues to be on Monday, Thursday and Friday

-    You must be signed up to attend clubs, which start again next week

-    Reading – please ensure that you read 5 times a week and record this in your Reading Journal. You MUST have your reading book and journal in school every day

-    Spellings – please practise putting spellings into sentences. These are set on TEAMs as well as shared on the blog.

-   SumDog – Please practise on this as it is crucial that you maintain your learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you have already learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class

Have a lovely weekend.
