30.6.23

 Year 5,

This week you have been busy in your learning. In English, you have interpreted an image, which many of you were very enthusiastic about. You also wrote a range of sentences about it as a way to revise grammar. In maths you have converted units of time, read tables and interpreted timetables. In science, you completed observations of the butterflies, researched and learnt about an important naturalist (Sir David Attenborough), and then created your own nature documentaries by researching an animal, writing a script and filming (and editing) your pieces. In history, you learnt about changes in music over the last century and how holidays have changed. On Thursday you appeared to thoroughly enjoy The Apprentice (already thinking about how you will do it next year) and you released the butterflies into the wild (although a number of them needed some encouragement to leave us).

Next week we are planning narratives based on the picture you have been looking at. In maths, we are problem solving and in science we are harvesting our potatoes (which we will hopefully cook and eat).  We are also going to be learning a lot in PSHE next week for our Changing Me topic. This will include changes in males and females, and how this can support the making of a baby. You will also have a chance to ask questions anonymously and these will be answered next week or the week after.

 Half-term project - River study

This half term your project is going to focus on a river of your choice. I would like you to be able to teach the groups you present to all about the river.

You must teach us about:

- location of the river

- human features of the river

- physical features of the river

- flora and fauna around the river

- how the river changes from the beginning (source) to the end (mouth)

- any interesting things about the river

This project can be share in any format. It could be (but is not limited to) a poster, model with labels, handwritten project, PowerPoint presentation.

Please hand in your project by Monday 10th July.

Remember:

-    PE can sometimes move so please ensure your kit is school in every day

-    Reading – please ensure that you read 5 times a week and record this in your Reading Journal. You MUST have your reading book and journal in school every day

-    Spellings – please practise putting spellings into sentences.

-   SumDog – Please practise on this as it is crucial that you maintain your learning knowledge – these games help you to maintain what you have already learnt and maybe learn a little before we begin in class

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Cresswell  😊
