Hello all! 


What a week we've had in Year 5. We have had a STEM talk from a supercar engineer, we have been investigating to see which materials are soluble and we have also evaluated bread on its characteristics today. 


Online Safety
I wanted to take a moment to address concerns that have recently come to my attention. I have noticed that some of the children in our class are engaging with online games such as Fortnite, which is rated for players aged 13 and above. Given that the students in our class are 9-10 years old, I wanted to share some information and encourage vigilance regarding their online gaming habits.

Games like Fortnite often expose players to online interactions with strangers, which can sometimes lead to inappropriate conversations, exposure to unsuitable language, or even interactions that may not be age-appropriate. Additionally, online games can foster addictive behaviour, making it challenging for children to manage their time effectively or focus on school responsibilities.

For these reasons, I strongly encourage you to consider discouraging the use of games that are rated above their age group. However, if your child is already playing or you choose to allow this as part of their entertainment, please monitor their gameplay closely. Many gaming consoles and apps offer parental controls that can help you set time limits, restrict in-game purchases, and control who they can communicate with online.

Your support in this matter is crucial in ensuring that our children are safe and responsible in their online activities. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like additional resources on managing online safety for children.

Home Learning

In Year 5, we will ask your child to ensure that they complete the following compulsory learning at home:

- Reading 5 times a week 

- Practising spellings each week between the pre-test and test (Test on Monday).

- Practising maths on Sumdog

- Practising times tables on TT Rockstars


PE Timetable 

Monday 1hr (Football).

Wednesday - Swimming. 

Thursday trainers only.

Half Term Project - Create a board game

I would like the children to create a board game, card game or quiz about any and all topics we have covered this year or in previous years. The children should also write some rules for their game. I would like EVERYONE to take part in this project. The games are due in on Monday 16th December. 


Next Week 

Maths - We will be subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. 

English - We will continue our work around the story, The Odyssey. 

Science - We will investigate how to recover materials from a solution.

Computing - We will use a storyboard to explore a variety of filming techniques. They will evaluate the effectiveness of these techniques.

RE - How do you express yourself?   

Geography - Why do people visit the Alps? Investigating where to explore. 

PSHE - Celebrating differences. 

D&T - To find out which different ingredients are needed to make bread and how ingredients can be altered and mixed to create different effects.

Lincolnsfields 2024 Day 1

 We have had a fun packed first day here at Lincolnsfields. We arrived in glorious sunshine and it continued throughout the day. We began with a quick talk about the safety requirements and expectations and then went straight into an activity. We were orienteering, using maps to get to know the site. The children solved a range of riddles (they were better at this than some of the adults!)  After this, it was lunchtime. We then headed to the woods where we were taken on a walk through them – including some muddy bits. The children then took part in team building challenges in the woodland. They completed ‘The Floor is Lava’ using boards to cross the lava, and ‘The Wind Game’ where they worked together to reach between 2 trees (some were rather a stretch). The children then played Zombies vs Humans and finally returned to the main buildings where they were told their rooms. Happy Friday all,  We have had a very Christmassy day today. Rehearsing for Tuesday's Carol Concert, eating a Christmas dinner and watched Inside Out 2 in the hall.  Just to remind you next Friday we finished a 1pm. Wednesday after school is open evening.  Our KS2 party is Thursday afternoon (during school). Please bring your party clothes.  Your project is due in on Monday.  Here is the  Music for Carol Concert  link for you to practise at home! PE Timetable  NEW Monday 1hr (Football). Lincolnsfields Day 2

 Today was a very busy day with lots of new experiences! After a fairly decent night's sleep, the children were up and out for breakfast at 9am. This was after playing a few games and enjoying balloons as it was one of the children’s birthdays. After breakfast, they participated in 3 Children at War activities. They visited a wartime house and learnt about the different tools, toys and activities in that period. They went into a wartime ‘Digging for Victory’ garden, where they saw an Anderson Shelter and then had the job of putting out an incendiary device which had fallen onto a roof – this required a lot of hard work with a stirrup pump. They also visited a Blitz experience where they learnt about the Blitz from a gentleman who was a child at the time. They learnt about his first hand experiences before then attending a museum on the time.
